Light DJ Remix Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how NRTHRNLIGHTS L.L.C. (“NRTHRNLIGHTS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and retains personal information when you use the Light DJ Remix application, related websites, cloud services, AI generation features, and support services (collectively, “Light DJ Remix” or the “Service”).
This Policy applies to Light DJ Remix. Other NRTHRNLIGHTS applications may have separate policies. By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described here. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Privacy summary
- We collect information needed to operate accounts, subscriptions, AI generation, cloud synchronization, music-aware features, connected-light features, support, security, and generation limits.
- Prompts and relevant context are sent through our cloud service to an AI service provider, currently OpenAI, to generate light shows.
- AI context may include recent prompt history, the current show, available track title and artist, genres, track duration, editorial notes, tempo information, and generated output.
- We do not sell personal information and do not share it with third parties for their own targeted advertising.
- Light DJ Remix does not intentionally opt in to allow OpenAI to train its general-purpose models on Remix API data. Generation requests are configured not to be stored as OpenAI response objects, subject to OpenAI's applicable API terms, security processing, and retention controls.
- Microphone audio is processed for dictation, Shazam recognition, or tempo analysis. NRTHRNLIGHTS does not intentionally store raw microphone recordings or send raw microphone audio to the Light DJ Remix generation server.
- If you opt in to Join Community Cache, eligible generated shows and qualifying tempo refinements you provide may be contributed to a shared catalog organized around recordings rather than user accounts.
- You can delete your Light DJ Remix cloud account from inside the app. Deleting the account does not cancel an App Store subscription.
1. Who is responsible
NRTHRNLIGHTS L.L.C. is the controller of personal information processed through Light DJ Remix, except where another company acts independently under its own terms and privacy policy.

2. Information we collect
The information we collect depends on the features you use and the choices you make.
Account and authentication information
Light DJ Remix creates an anonymous Firebase account when necessary to provide cloud generation, usage tracking, and synchronization. If you register or sign in, we may receive your Firebase user identifier, name, email address, profile information, authentication provider, and provider-specific account identifier. Supported sign-in methods may include email, Apple, Google, and Facebook. Authentication providers process sign-in information under their own privacy policies.
We do not receive your Apple, Google, or Facebook password. If you use email-and-password authentication, Firebase processes the credentials used to authenticate your account.
Subscription and transaction information
When you purchase through Apple, Apple processes your payment details. We receive information needed to verify and administer access, such as product identifier, transaction and original transaction identifiers, subscription dates, transaction environment, revocation status, and a pseudonymous App Account Token associated with your Light DJ Remix account. We do not receive your full payment-card number or security code from Apple.
Prompts, conversations, and generated content
We process the text prompts you submit, a limited number of recent conversation messages, the light show being edited, AI-generated output, saved shows, playlists, creation history, and related timestamps and metadata. Voice prompts are converted into text before submission to the AI generation service.
Lighting, room, and device context
To create compatible shows and operate connected lighting, we may process:
- the types and approximate counts of selected Philips Hue, LIFX, and Nanoleaf devices;
- Hue operating mode and entertainment-area or selected-light counts;
- room, group, and light names you configured;
- application version, build, device model, operating-system version, settings, and technical status; and
- local-network and connection information needed to discover and communicate with supported lights.
Generation requests send a limited lighting-compatibility flag to our cloud service to select compatible effects. Requests may also include the current music context, if available.
Music and audio context
If you use music-aware features, we may process track title, artist, genres, track duration, editorial notes, tempo, source, Shazam identifier, Apple Music identifier, ISRC, playback-related state, and artwork URL. This includes tempo measurements or refinements you provide, such as tap-tempo input. We use this information to recognize tracks, estimate or refine tempo, retrieve cached shows, and generate track-aware shows.
Microphone and speech information
With your permission, Light DJ Remix accesses the microphone for voice dictation, Shazam music recognition, and tempo synchronization.
- Voice dictation: Audio is provided to Apple's speech-recognition technology to produce text. Apple's processing is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy. The resulting text becomes a prompt if you submit it.
- Shazam: Audio signatures or related recognition data are processed through Apple's ShazamKit service to identify nearby music. Recognition results may include track metadata and identifiers.
- Tempo analysis: Audio buffers may be analyzed on the device to estimate musical tempo.
NRTHRNLIGHTS does not intentionally retain raw microphone recordings. Raw microphone audio is not included in requests to the Light DJ Remix AI generation server. Apple may process audio or audio signatures as necessary to provide speech recognition and Shazam under its own policies.
Usage, entitlement, and diagnostic information
We process plan type, generation allowance, usage count, reset date, entitlement status, request identifiers, timestamps, response identifiers, cache status, errors, rate-limit and abuse-prevention information, and technical events necessary to operate and secure the Service.
For registered accounts, the app creates diagnostic logs for troubleshooting. Logs can include application activity, prompts, track metadata, generated-show details, device model, operating-system version, app version, errors, and connection diagnostics. Completed registered-account session logs are uploaded to Firebase and marked to expire after 30 days. Anonymous-session logs are designed to be discarded instead of uploaded. Do not enter information in prompts or names that you would not want to appear in a diagnostic log.
The Service may also collect analytics about feature usage, app performance, device characteristics, and interactions. Private operational analytics may include prompt and song text with common identifiers redacted, generation outcomes, token usage, latency, and interactions with onboarding, playback, saving, and purchase flows. These records are account-scoped for deletion and access control; developer exports replace account identifiers with aliases. Redaction does not guarantee that free-form text is anonymous. Facebook automatic app-event logging and advertiser-identifier collection are disabled in the current Remix configuration. If we materially change analytics or advertising practices, we will update this Policy and any required platform disclosures or consent controls.
Support and communications
If you contact us, we collect your email address, message, attachments, and other information you choose to provide. Support materials and diagnostic logs may contain prompts, track names, room or light names, or other content. Review attachments before sending them.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- provide, personalize, synchronize, maintain, and improve Light DJ Remix;
- authenticate accounts and merge account data at your request;
- verify subscriptions, restore purchases, apply plan access, and administer generation allowances;
- process prompts and contextual information to create light shows;
- recognize music, refine tempo, and retrieve or create track-aware shows;
- store and synchronize history and saved shows across your devices;
- operate shared caches that avoid unnecessary repeat AI generation;
- provide customer support and troubleshoot errors;
- measure reliability, capacity, feature performance, and aggregate usage;
- prevent fraud, credential abuse, quota evasion, attacks, and other misuse;
- enforce our Terms of Service and AI-provider usage requirements;
- comply with law and protect users, NRTHRNLIGHTS, and third parties; and
- communicate about service, security, account, policy, or support matters.
We may aggregate or deidentify information so it no longer reasonably identifies you. We may use and disclose deidentified information for product improvement, analysis, safety, and research, and we will not attempt to reidentify it except to test our deidentification methods or as permitted by law.
4. AI processing
Light DJ Remix currently uses OpenAI's API to generate structured light-show instructions. When you request a generation, our Firebase-hosted server prepares a model request that may contain:
- your latest prompt and up to a limited number of recent conversation messages;
- the current light show, if you are editing one;
- available track title, artist, genres, track duration, editorial notes, and tempo information, including for Free users.
Music source, recognition mode, and music identifiers are used by our cloud service for track lookup and caching but are excluded from the audio context sent to the AI provider. Missing or blank recording metadata is omitted.
The server adds effect-catalog instructions, compatibility constraints, and safety or formatting instructions. It also sends a pseudonymous safety identifier derived from your Light DJ Remix account identifier for abuse prevention. It does not send your account name, email address, or raw microphone audio as part of the model input unless you put that information into a prompt or other submitted content included in the model request.
Generation requests are currently sent with OpenAI response storage disabled. According to OpenAI's API data controls, API inputs and outputs are not used to train OpenAI's models by default unless the API customer affirmatively opts in. NRTHRNLIGHTS does not intentionally opt in to such training for Light DJ Remix. OpenAI may nevertheless process and temporarily retain information as permitted by its applicable business/API terms for service delivery, security, abuse monitoring, and legal compliance. See OpenAI's privacy and data-control information.
AI outputs may be reviewed in deidentified or aggregated form to test quality, troubleshoot failures, improve safety, and improve the Service. Authorized personnel may review identifiable content when you request support or when reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, security incidents, legal obligations, or threats to users or the Service.
Do not submit confidential information, passwords, financial-account information, government identifiers, precise location, sensitive personal information, or another person's personal information without authorization. AI output may be inaccurate and should be reviewed before use.
5. Shared track-show catalog
Eligible paid users may retrieve compatible shows and track-tempo information from the shared Community Cache without contributing their own data. Contribution is optional and disabled by default. If you enable Join Community Cache, a successfully and automatically generated music-aware show may be stored so that you or another eligible user requesting the same recording can reuse it without another AI generation. Qualifying tempo refinements you provide, such as a stable tap-tempo measurement, may also be contributed and used to update or validate the shared tempo associated with that recording for you and other eligible users. Shared catalog records may include track title, artist, music identifiers or hashed lookup keys, generated show data, contributed or estimated tempo, confidence, source and validation information, compatibility variant, and timestamps. We do not intentionally include account profile information, custom prompts, room names, or light names in contributed catalog records.
The shared catalog is organized around recordings and is not intended to identify the user who first generated a show or contributed or refined a tempo. You can turn off Join Community Cache at any time to stop future show and tempo contributions. Shared catalog entries that have already been deidentified may remain after you opt out, cancel or end a subscription, or delete an account because they are not stored as personal account history; however, we will remove or deidentify an entry if it contains personal information and applicable law requires us to do so.
6. How we disclose information
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not share personal information for third parties' own targeted advertising.
We may disclose information to:
- Cloud and infrastructure providers, currently including Google Firebase, for authentication, databases, hosting, server functions, storage, security, and related infrastructure;
- AI service providers, currently OpenAI, to process AI inputs and produce generated shows;
- Apple, for App Store purchases, StoreKit subscription verification, Apple Music, ShazamKit, speech recognition, operating-system services, and account authentication;
- Authentication providers, such as Google and Facebook, when you choose those sign-in methods;
- Lighting-platform providers, such as Signify/Philips Hue, LIFX, and Nanoleaf, as necessary to connect with their products or services;
- Professional advisers and vendors that provide support, security, legal, accounting, or operational services under appropriate obligations;
- Authorities or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, enforce our agreements, investigate fraud or security incidents, or protect rights, safety, and property; and
- A successor or transaction participant in connection with a merger, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar corporate transaction, subject to applicable law.
Third-party products and services have their own privacy practices. Review their policies before using an optional integration.
7. Storage and retention
Information may be stored locally on your device and on service-provider systems in the United States or other countries where our providers operate.
We generally retain:
- account records, cloud-synchronized history, saved shows, and related content until you delete the content or account;
- subscription and entitlement records while your account exists and afterward as reasonably necessary for transaction integrity, fraud prevention, disputes, accounting, or legal compliance;
- generation-usage records as needed to enforce allowances, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, and maintain business records;
- private operational analytics for approximately 90 days, subject to asynchronous deletion and account-deletion controls;
- registered-account diagnostic session logs for up to 30 days under the current retention configuration, unless a longer period is reasonably necessary for security, support, abuse prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or backup integrity;
- local history, saved shows, track caches, audio profiles, preferences, and pending logs until you delete them, delete the app, use an available deletion control, or an applicable storage limit removes them; and
- shared track-catalog records for as long as they remain useful to the Service, subject to applicable deletion rights and the limitations described above.
OpenAI and other providers may retain information for periods established by their applicable terms and data controls. Backups may preserve residual copies for a limited time after deletion. We may retain deidentified information without a fixed retention period where permitted by law.
8. Your choices and controls
You can:
- decline microphone, speech-recognition, Apple Music, or local-network permissions in iOS settings, although related features will not work;
- choose whether to type or dictate prompts;
- avoid music-aware features or use manual creation features;
- enable or disable Join Community Cache in Settings; this controls future show and tempo contributions and does not affect eligible access to data already in the shared catalog;
- review and delete individual history or saved-show items using available app controls;
- sign out or manage linked authentication providers;
- request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of applicable personal information by contacting us; and
- delete your cloud account from the account-management screen in Light DJ Remix.
Account deletion removes the Firebase authentication account and Remix account collections, including cloud history, saved shows, usage data, uploaded session logs, and entitlement records, subject to legal, security, transaction, backup, and shared-catalog exceptions described in this Policy. Local information remains on the device unless you delete it or the app. Deleting a Remix account does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage or cancel the subscription separately through your Apple Account.
We may need to verify your identity and authority before completing a privacy request. We may deny or limit requests where permitted by law, such as when information must be retained for security, fraud prevention, legal obligations, or the rights of others.
9. Legal bases for EEA, UK, and Swiss users
If European data-protection law applies, we process personal information under one or more of these legal bases:
- Contract: to provide the Service, subscriptions, generation features, synchronization, support, and requested integrations;
- Legitimate interests: to secure and improve the Service, prevent abuse, diagnose problems, understand aggregate usage, and protect our business and users, where those interests are not overridden by your rights;
- Consent: when you grant device permissions or when consent is otherwise required; you may withdraw consent, although this does not affect earlier lawful processing; and
- Legal obligation: to comply with tax, accounting, consumer-protection, law-enforcement, and other applicable requirements.
Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port personal information; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; and complain to your local supervisory authority.
When personal information is transferred internationally, we and our providers use legally recognized safeguards where required, such as adequacy decisions, contractual protections, or applicable data-transfer frameworks.
10. United States state privacy rights
Depending on where you live and subject to legal exceptions, you may have rights to know or access personal information, correct inaccuracies, delete information, obtain a portable copy, and appeal a denied request. You may also have rights concerning sale, targeted advertising, profiling, or sensitive data. We do not sell personal information or share it for third-party targeted advertising as those concepts are commonly defined in comprehensive U.S. state privacy laws.
You will not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising an applicable privacy right. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authority and verification of your identity. Contact kevin@nrthrnlights.com to submit a request or appeal.
11. Children
Light DJ Remix is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you are under the age required to consent to data processing where you live, use the Service only with authorization from a parent or legal guardian.
If you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate authorization, contact us. We will investigate and delete the information when required. Parents and guardians are responsible for purchases made through accounts or devices they control, subject to applicable law and platform policies.
12. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration will never occur. Protect your account credentials and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.
13. Legal requests and safety
We may preserve, access, or disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with applicable law, a subpoena, court order, warrant, or other valid legal process; enforce our Terms; investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents; or protect the rights, safety, and property of users, NRTHRNLIGHTS, or others.
Where legally permitted and appropriate, we may notify you of a request for your information. We seek to limit disclosures to information reasonably responsive to the request.
14. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the Service, providers, technology, or law. We will post the revised Policy and update its effective date. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent for material changes where required by law. Changes apply prospectively unless applicable law permits otherwise.
